Smart meters: New technology will deliver a better customer experience in Worcester
Today more than 30 million smart meters are installed across the United States. These two-way communications devices offer a number of benefits to both consumers and utilities, and serve as the heart of Smart Grid systems. Smart meters leverage wireless communications to provide a safe, reliable and secure way for utilities to recognize real-time customer energy use, including outages, and provide that data to customers and National Grid.
Beginning in April 2013, customers in the Smart Energy Solutions program will receive a new smart meter that will give them the ability to measure electricity in near real-time and provide two-way communications between their home or business and National Grid. Smart meters will serve as a gateway to new online tools, devices and pricing options that will help cus tomers better manage energy use.
National Grid feels that the benefits of the Smart Energy Solutions program are significant to customers and smart meters are an integral part of these solutions; however, if a customer prefers not to receive a smart meter, they can contact us at contact 1-855-377-SMART (1-855-377-7627) to make this request.
Please note that if a customer chooses not to receive a smart meter they will be unable to take advantage of smart meter-enabled benefits offered through the program.
